Purpose
To help a leadership team rapidly develop a clearly described collective vision and a strategic roadmap for achieving that vision. It provides a foundation for subsequent definition of performance targets and action plans.
Outcomes
The workshop results in:
- Clarification of the organization’s collective strategic ambition.
- Tighter alignment of the leadership team around that ambition.
The ambition is described as a three-part vision statement (What, Why, Goals) and a single page strategy map illustrating key thrusts, strategic objectives and the relationships between them. A text narrative describing the strategy map is prepared shortly after the conclusion of the workshop.
Format
The process begins with a pre-workshop facilitator familiarization and an information gathering interview with the CEO or equivalent leader. The workshop’s first day explores trends, uncertainties and constants in the business environment to develop a robust vision for the company's future. The second day uses the vision to frame and develop the strategy map. A final report documents the workshop outcomes.

Reasonable Alignment
This 'Lite' approach is designed for a leadership team that is relatively well aligned but whose views must be clarified, organized, fine tuned and updated. If alignment is an issue, or the group prefers to work with a ‘straw-man’, or the corporate culture requires deep involvement and commitment before it ‘buys-in,’ then a more extensive Vision Development & Strategy Formulation engagement is recommended.
Healthy Situation
This ‘Lite’ approach is most successful in relatively healthy business environments. We recommend our more extensive Vision Development & Strategy Formulation approach where organizations are facing complex threats or major transformations.
