Purpose
To build a collective direction by engaging a broad and diverse group of stakeholders in translating ambitions, trends, expectations and uncertainties into a clear vision and a viable strategic agenda. It provides a framework for defining performance targets and action plans.
Format
Highlights of the vision development & strategy formulation process include structured interviews that tease out stakeholder insights, and a series of workshops that facilitate collective decision-making and expose nonalignment, lack of clarity, lack of focus and non-engagement. The workshops are structured to:
- Identify certain trends, constant expectations and risky uncertainties
- Reveal key change drivers and identify opportunities and alternatives
- Evaluate vision concepts (potential strategic moves) against possible scenarios
- Choose and articulate a statement of ambition and set vision goals
- Establish priority thrusts
- Map out inter-related strategic objectives
- Validate the final documentation
A 'Lite' Alternative
Leadership teams that are already well aligned, and functioning in a health business environment, may only need some 'fine tuning' and 'updating'. For such situations we offer a 'Lite' two day Strategic Planning Offsite
Outcomes
This process has four primary outcomes that include:
- Getting diverse stakeholders aligned on a single, clearly defined, view of the organization’s future and how to achieve it.
- Enhanced communication.
- Key stakeholder involvement and engagement.
- A narrative document that ‘tells the story’ of the vision and strategy and illustrates it with a vision statement and strategic road-map. The story describes a logical progression from a situational analysis, the alternatives considered, the final ambition, to the description of principal thrusts and inter-related strategic objectives.
